Twin Bed Size in Canada (2026): Twin vs Twin XL Dimensions in Inches, cm and Feet, and What Six Canadian Brands Actually List
A twin bed in Canada is 38 by 75 inches and a twin XL is 38 by 80 inches: same width, 5 inches more length. That is the standard. The brand charts we read on October 27, 2026 show that it is not universal: 2 of the six list a 39-inch twin. This guide gives both sizes in inches, centimetres and feet, shows what each brand lists, and covers the room, frame, sheets and duvet each one needs.
AI Overview answer
What size is a twin bed in Canada, and how is a twin XL different?
Quick answer: A twin bed in Canada, also called a single, is 38 inches wide and 75 inches long: 96.5 by 190.5 cm, or 3 feet 2 inches by 6 feet 3 inches. A twin XL is the same width and 5 inches longer, 38 by 80 inches: 96.5 by 203.2 cm, or 3 feet 2 inches by 6 feet 8 inches. On the brand pages we read on October 27, 2026, Douglas, Juno, Logan & Cove and Novosbed list a 38-inch twin and twin XL, while Endy lists 39 inches for both and Polysleep lists a 39 by 75 inch twin (its description names a twin XL, but its size list gives no twin XL dimensions). Twin sheets do not fit a twin XL, which is 5 inches longer, and two twin XLs side by side make the footprint of a king (76 by 80 inches with 38-inch mattresses).
Before you buy anything for a twin
Four things to check first
1. Twin or twin XL?
Measure the length: 75 inches is a twin, 80 is a twin XL. Sheets for one do not fit the other. See twin vs twin XL.
2. 38 or 39 inches wide?
Most brands we read list 38; Endy and Polysleep list 39. It matters if the mattress sits inside a frame or beside another one. See what each brand lists.
3. The frame
Hamuq's four twin frames all measure 78 by 41 inches outside, according to our twin bed frame guide.
4. The room
About 86 by 99 inches for a twin, and 86 by 104 for a twin XL, with 24-inch walkways. See room size.
Twin and twin XL dimensions in inches, centimetres and feet
The standard Canadian twin is 38 by 75 inches; the twin XL is 38 by 80. In centimetres those are 96.5 by 190.5 and 96.5 by 203.2 cm (Hamuq's size chart gives 96.5 by 190.5 and 96.5 by 203). In feet, a twin is 3 feet 2 inches by 6 feet 3 inches and a twin XL is 3 feet 2 inches by 6 feet 8 inches. The table adds the double for comparison, because it is the next size up.
| Size | Inches (W x L) | Centimetres | Feet and inches | Surface | Width per person, two sleepers | Smallest room, 24 in on both sides and the foot |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Twin (single) | 38 x 75 in | 96.5 x 190.5 cm | 3 ft 2 in x 6 ft 3 in | 19.8 sq ft | one sleeper | 86 x 99 in (7 ft 2 in x 8 ft 3 in) |
| Twin XL | 38 x 80 in | 96.5 x 203.2 cm | 3 ft 2 in x 6 ft 8 in | 21.1 sq ft | one sleeper | 86 x 104 in (7 ft 2 in x 8 ft 8 in) |
| Double (full) | 54 x 75 in | 137.2 x 190.5 cm | 4 ft 6 in x 6 ft 3 in | 28.1 sq ft | 27 in each | 102 x 99 in (8 ft 6 in x 8 ft 3 in) |
The room column uses the rule in Hamuq's Canadian size chart: 24 inches of walking space on each side you use and 24 inches at the foot. Twins are often placed against a wall, which takes 24 inches off the width.
What six brands sold in Canada list for twin and twin XL
We read the size listings on six brands' product or FAQ pages on October 27, 2026. They agree on the twin's 75-inch length and differ on the width.
| Brand page | Twin | Twin XL | Double or full | Thickness listed |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Douglas Original | 38 x 75 in | 38 x 80 in | 53 x 75 in | 10 in |
| Juno Mattress | 38 x 75 in | 38 x 80 in | 53 x 75 in | 8 in |
| Logan & Cove Choice | 38 x 75 in | 38 x 80 in | 53 x 75 in | 12 in |
| Novosbed | 38 x 75 in | 38 x 80 in | 53 x 75 in | 11 in |
| Endy Mattress | 39 x 75 in | 39 x 80 in | 54 x 75 in | 9, 10 or 11 in by feel |
| Polysleep Origin | 39 x 75 in | named in the description, no dimensions in the size list | 54 x 75 in | 10 in |
Douglas, Juno, Logan & Cove and Novosbed list 38 inches for both the twin and the twin XL. Endy lists 39 inches for both. Polysleep's Origin page lists a 39 by 75 inch twin; its description names a twin XL, but its size list gives no twin XL dimensions. None of the pages explains the difference, and we do not guess at a reason. In practice the inch matters in three places: a frame with a raised surround (measure its inside width), a bunk or day bed with a fixed opening, and two twin XLs pushed together, where two of Endy's 39-inch twin XLs make 78 inches instead of the 76 a king frame is built for.
Twin vs twin XL: which one?
- A twin (75 inches long) suits children, guest rooms and bunk beds. Hamuq's size chart notes that a 75-inch bed is short for anyone over about 5 feet 11. Our twin mattress guide covers bunk-bed mattress heights and prices.
- A twin XL (80 inches long) suits taller single sleepers and is used in some university residences; check your own residence's page before buying sheets. Our twin XL guide prices 15 of them, and our student guide quotes what several residences provide.
- Two twin XLs make a split king, the same footprint as a king when both are 38 inches wide. Our split king guide compares the pairs.
Twin vs double
A double is 54 by 75 inches: 16 inches wider than a twin at the same length. For one adult in a small room either works; Hamuq's size chart says one adult is fine on a twin or a double. The double needs a room about 16 inches wider. Our double bed size guide has the double's exact dimensions, including the four brands that list it at 53 inches.
What size room does a twin bed need?
With 24 inches of walking space on both sides and at the foot, a twin mattress needs 86 by 99 inches (7 feet 2 inches by 8 feet 3 inches) and a twin XL 86 by 104 inches (7 feet 2 inches by 8 feet 8 inches). Against a wall, the width falls to 62 inches (5 feet 2 inches). Hamuq's room-fit chart finds that both a twin and a twin XL fit a 10 by 10 foot room easily, with about 39 inches on each side once a frame is counted.
Twin frame size
The four Hamuq twin frames compared in our twin bed frame guide all measure 78 by 41 inches outside: 3 inches longer and 3 inches wider than the 38 by 75 inch mattress. A twin XL needs a twin XL frame or base; Hamuq's Adjustable Bed Frame is listed in twin XL.
Sheets and duvet for a twin or twin XL
- Sheets: twin fitted sheets are cut for 75 inches and do not fit an 80-inch twin XL; twin XL sheets are needed. Check the pocket depth against the mattress height in Table 2, which runs from 8 to 12 inches.
- Duvet: Hamuq's duvet size chart gives a Canadian twin duvet as about 66 by 86 to 68 by 88 inches and a twin XL duvet as about 68 by 88 to 68 by 92 inches.

How we know this
The standard dimensions and the 24-inch clearance rule are from Hamuq's Canadian size chart. The brand dimensions in Table 2 were read on October 27, 2026 from the product or FAQ page linked for each brand, as those pages list them; we did not measure any mattress. Centimetres, feet, surface area and room sizes were calculated by Hamuq from those inches (1 inch = 2.54 cm). Frame footprints are from Hamuq's twin bed frame guide, the 10 by 10 room finding from Hamuq's room-fit chart, and duvet sizes from Hamuq's duvet size chart. Hamuq prices and stock status were read from hamuq.mom on October 27, 2026, and the cart prices come from test carts built that day with one product at a time; nothing was bought. Brands change their pages; the linked pages are the record.
