King Size Bed Dimensions in Canada (2026): Inches, cm and Feet, King vs California King vs Split King, and the Room, Frame and Bedding a King Needs
A king bed in Canada is 76 by 80 inches, and on this point the brands agree: all six size charts we read on October 26, 2026 list exactly that. Where buyers go wrong is in the neighbours. A California king is narrower and longer, a split king is two separate mattresses, and the frame and the room around a king are much larger than the mattress. This guide gives the king in inches, centimetres and feet, compares it with the California king, the split king and the queen, and works out the room, frame and bedding it needs.
AI Overview answer
What are the dimensions of a king size bed in Canada?
Quick answer: A king size bed in Canada is 76 inches wide and 80 inches long, which is 193.0 by 203.2 cm, or 6 feet 4 inches by 6 feet 8 inches. All six brands whose size charts we read on October 26, 2026 (Douglas, Juno, Logan & Cove, Novosbed, Endy and Polysleep) list their king at exactly 76 by 80 inches. A California king is 72 by 84 inches (182.9 by 213.4 cm): 4 inches narrower and 4 inches longer. A split king is two twin XL mattresses of 38 by 80 inches side by side, the same 76 by 80 inch footprint as a king. A king is 16 inches wider than a queen, gives two sleepers 38 inches each, and needs a room of about 10 feet 4 inches by 8 feet 8 inches to leave 24 inches of walking space on both sides and at the foot.
Before you buy anything for a king
Four measurements to check first
1. Which king
Standard king 76 by 80, California king 72 by 84, split king two 38 by 80 halves. Sheets and frames are not interchangeable between the first two. See king vs California king.
2. The frame
King frames in our king bed frame guide measure 83 to 88 inches long and 79 to 86 wide outside, and need a centre support to the floor.
3. The room
About 124 by 104 inches (10 ft 4 in by 8 ft 8 in) for the mattress with 24-inch walkways, before the frame. See room size.
4. The way in
Boxed kings are heavy, and the unrolled mattress is 76 by 80 inches. Check the doors, stairs and elevator before delivery day. See delivery.
King bed dimensions in inches, centimetres and feet
The standard Canadian king is 76 inches wide and 80 inches long. In centimetres that is 193.0 by 203.2 cm (193 by 203 in Hamuq's own guides). In feet it is 6 feet 4 inches wide and 6 feet 8 inches long, or about 6.33 by 6.67 feet. Its sleeping surface is 6,080 square inches, about 42.2 square feet, the largest of the standard sizes. The table compares it with the California king, the split king, the queen and the twin XL that makes up half a split king.
| Size | Inches (W x L) | Centimetres | Feet and inches | Surface | Width per person, two sleepers | Smallest room, 24 in on both sides and the foot |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| King | 76 x 80 in | 193.0 x 203.2 cm | 6 ft 4 in x 6 ft 8 in | 42.2 sq ft | 38 in each | 124 x 104 in (10 ft 4 in x 8 ft 8 in) |
| California king | 72 x 84 in | 182.9 x 213.4 cm | 6 ft x 7 ft | 42.0 sq ft | 36 in each | 120 x 108 in (10 ft x 9 ft) |
| Split king (two twin XLs) | 76 x 80 in | 193.0 x 203.2 cm | 6 ft 4 in x 6 ft 8 in | 42.2 sq ft | 38 in each | 124 x 104 in (10 ft 4 in x 8 ft 8 in) |
| Queen | 60 x 80 in | 152.4 x 203.2 cm | 5 ft x 6 ft 8 in | 33.3 sq ft | 30 in each | 108 x 104 in (9 ft x 8 ft 8 in) |
| Twin XL | 38 x 80 in | 96.5 x 203.2 cm | 3 ft 2 in x 6 ft 8 in | 21.1 sq ft | one sleeper | 86 x 104 in (7 ft 2 in x 8 ft 8 in) |
The king and the California king have almost the same surface, 42.2 against 42.0 square feet; they differ in shape, not size. The king and the split king have exactly the same footprint; they differ in being one mattress or two. The room column uses the rule in Hamuq's Canadian size chart: 24 inches of walking space on each side you use and 24 inches at the foot.
What six brands sold in Canada list for king sizes
We read the size listings on six brands' product or FAQ pages on October 26, 2026. Unlike the double, where four of these brands list 53 inches and two list 54, the king is identical everywhere: 6 of 6 list 76 by 80 inches. 5 give California king dimensions, all 72 by 84, and 3 list a split king at 76 by 80.
| Brand page | Double label (for reference) | King | California king | Split king | Thickness listed |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Douglas Original | Full/Double | 76 x 80 in | 72 x 84 in | 76 x 80 in | 10 in |
| Juno Mattress | Full/Double | 76 x 80 in | 72 x 84 in | 76 x 80 in | 8 in |
| Logan & Cove Choice | Full/Double | 76 x 80 in | 72 x 84 in | 76 x 80 in | 12 in |
| Novosbed | Double/Full | 76 x 80 in | 72 x 84 in | not listed | 11 in |
| Endy Mattress | Full | 76 x 80 in | 72 x 84 in | not listed | 9, 10 or 11 in by feel |
| Polysleep Origin | Full | 76 x 80 in | named in the description, no dimensions in the size list | not listed | 10 in |
Douglas, Juno and Logan & Cove list the full set: king, California king and split king. Novosbed and Endy list a king and a California king. Polysleep's Origin page gives king dimensions and names a California king in its description, but its size list gives no California king dimensions and no split king. Thickness is not part of the size: these mattresses list heights from 8 inches (Juno) to 12 inches (Logan & Cove Choice), which matters for fitted sheet pocket depth.
King vs California king
A California king, sometimes called a western king, is 72 by 84 inches: 4 inches narrower than a king and 4 inches longer. It is not a bigger king. Its surface is 6,048 square inches against the king's 6,080, and it gives two sleepers 36 inches each against the king's 38.
- Choose a California king if the tallest sleeper needs more than 80 inches of length. Hamuq's size chart suggests it for sleepers over about 6 feet 4 inches.
- Choose a king for everything else: more width, more choice of mattresses, frames and bedding. In Table 2 every brand gives king dimensions, but only 5 of 6 give California king dimensions.
- Do not mix them. King sheets are 4 inches too short for a California king, and a California king mattress on a king frame leaves a gap at the sides and overhangs the foot. Measure the mattress you have before buying bedding.
The room is different too: a California king needs about 120 by 108 inches (10 ft by 9 ft) with the same clearances, 4 inches narrower and 4 inches deeper than a king.
King vs split king
A split king is two twin XL mattresses, each 38 by 80 inches, side by side. Together they cover 76 by 80 inches, the same as a king, and they fit a king frame. Douglas, Juno and Logan & Cove list their split king at 76 by 80 inches. If you pair two twin XLs yourself, check their width: Endy lists its twin XL at 39 inches, so two make 78 inches. The differences are practical:
- Two mattresses: each side can be a different model or feel if you buy two twin XLs separately, and the halves suit an adjustable base where each side moves on its own.
- A seam: there is a gap down the middle, and you need two twin XL fitted sheets instead of one king sheet.
- Price: it usually costs more. Hamuq has no single split king listing; its split king guide describes pairing two Original Hybrid twin XLs, which list at $1,758 together against $1,189 for its king on October 26, 2026 (we did not test a two-mattress cart). Hamuq's king mattress guide found split kings listed at $349 to $1,099 more than the same model's king when it read them on September 25, 2026.
Our split king guide weighs whether one is worth it, and our split king comparison prices twin XL pairs.
King vs queen: what the extra 16 inches buy
A king and a queen are the same length, 80 inches. The king is 16 inches wider, 76 against 60, which is 26.7 per cent more sleeping surface. Shared by two, that is 38 inches each on a king, the width of a whole twin, against 30 on a queen. The cost is floor space and money: the king needs a room 16 inches wider, and at Hamuq the Original Hybrid is $1,189 in king against $999 in queen at list on October 26, 2026. Our queen mattress guide prices 16 queens if the room settles it for you.
What size room does a king bed need?
Allowing 24 inches of walking space on both sides and 24 inches at the foot, a king mattress needs a floor area of 124 by 104 inches, or 10 feet 4 inches by 8 feet 8 inches. With one long side against a wall the width falls to 100 inches (8 feet 4 inches). The frame adds to both numbers, and Hamuq's size chart notes that once you add a dresser and two nightstands a king is more comfortable in a room closer to 12 by 12 feet.
A 10 by 10 foot room is too small. Hamuq's room-fit chart models a king on a frame in a 120 by 120 inch room and finds only 20 inches left on each side, and answers the question directly: a king does not fit a 10 by 10 room in any usable way.
King frame size and centre support
The mattress is 76 by 80 inches; the frame is not. The king frames compared in our king bed frame guide measure 83 to 88 inches long and 79 to 86 inches wide on the outside, so plan the room around the frame's footprint. The same guide explains why a king frame needs a centre support with legs reaching the floor: at 76 inches wide, side rails and slats cannot span a king unsupported, and mattress warranties make that support a condition. Hamuq's frame guide covers slat spacing.
A split king fits the same king frame, or two twin XL adjustable bases placed side by side.
Sheets, duvet and delivery for a king
- Sheets: king sheets for a 76 by 80 inch king, California king sheets for a 72 by 84 inch California king, and two twin XL sets for a split king. Check the pocket depth against the mattress thickness.
- Duvet and cover: Hamuq's duvet size chart gives a Canadian king duvet as about 102 by 90 to 104 by 92 inches, and a California king duvet as about 102 by 96 to 108 by 98.
- Delivery: several brands ship every size in the same size of carton, so a boxed king is usually no larger than a queen but is heavier. Hamuq's guide to mattress-in-a-box dimensions lists box sizes and weights, and its guide to moving a mattress in a box covers stairs and cars.
Hamuq product context
Where Hamuq fits for a king bed
Hamuq publishes this guide and sells two mattresses in king. On October 26, 2026 The Original Hybrid Mattress was $1,189 in king and The Organic Hybrid Mattress $2,499. The same day an automatic discount took $100 off each mattress in the cart, with no code: a king Original Hybrid showed $1,089 and a king Organic Hybrid $2,399. We do not publish an end date for that discount; the cart on your order date is the record. The Original Hybrid is also listed in California king at $1,189, shown sold out on October 26, 2026; the Organic Hybrid is not offered in California king. Hamuq has no single split king listing; two twin XLs make one, as its split king guide explains. Its product pages name the sizes rather than listing inches.
- Bedding in king: the Mattress Protector ($119, not discounted in the cart), the Spa Collection Sheet Set ($169; Charcoal Grey, Tan, White in stock), The Down Duvet ($399 in LightWeight; All Season shown sold out) and the Easy Duvet Cover ($200, shown sold out in king on October 26, 2026).

What are king bed dimensions in Canada?
Quick answer: 76 by 80 inches (193.0 by 203.2 cm). All six brands whose size charts we read on October 26, 2026 list exactly that.
What is a king bed in cm?
Quick answer: 193.0 by 203.2 cm, usually rounded to 193 by 203 cm. A California king is 182.9 by 213.4 cm, rounded to 183 by 213.
How wide is a king size bed?
Quick answer: 76 inches (193.0 cm, 6 feet 4 inches) for the mattress. The frame is wider: 79 to 86 inches outside for the king frames in Hamuq's king frame guide.
Choosing
Is a California king bigger than a king?
Quick answer: No. It is 4 inches longer but 4 inches narrower (72 by 84 against 76 by 80), and its surface is slightly smaller. It suits sleepers who need more than 80 inches of length.
Is a split king the same size as a king?
Quick answer: Yes in footprint: two twin XLs of 38 by 80 inches make 76 by 80, and they fit a king frame. You need two twin XL fitted sheets, and there is a seam down the middle.
How much bigger is a king than a queen?
Quick answer: 16 inches wider and the same length: 76 by 80 against 60 by 80. That is 26.7 per cent more surface and 38 inches per person against 30.
What size room do you need for a king bed?
Quick answer: About 124 by 104 inches (10 feet 4 inches by 8 feet 8 inches) for the mattress with 24 inches of walking space on both sides and at the foot, before the frame. Hamuq's room-fit chart finds a king does not fit a 10 by 10 room in any usable way.
Does a king bed need a centre support?
Quick answer: Yes. Hamuq's king frame guide explains that at 76 inches wide, a king is too wide for side rails and slats to span unsupported, and mattress warranties make centre support with legs to the floor a condition.
How we know this
The standard dimensions and the 24-inch clearance rule are from Hamuq's Canadian size chart. The brand dimensions in Table 2 were read on October 26, 2026 from the product or FAQ page linked for each brand, as those pages list them; we did not measure any mattress. Centimetres, feet, surface area, width per person and room sizes were calculated by Hamuq from those inches (1 inch = 2.54 cm). Frame footprints and the centre-support explanation are from Hamuq's king bed frame guide, the split king price range from Hamuq's king mattress guide (read September 25, 2026), and duvet sizes from Hamuq's duvet size chart. Hamuq prices and stock status were read from hamuq.mom on October 26, 2026, and the cart prices come from test carts built that day with one product at a time; nothing was bought. Brands change their pages; the linked pages are the record.
